Austin Landing grows; Panera Bread opens soon

Panera Bread is close to opening at Austin Landing.

The business will seat close to 200 people and include a drive-through window.

“We’re really excited to see such an upscale, highly energized location here and we think we’re just the perfect concept for all the folks here with your office buildings and we pair up nicely with the retail you have here,” said Diana Ballato, Panera’s director of operations.

Sixty-six people will be employed at the eatery that is slated to open Aug. 23.

“Having the jobs is going to be a plus, but you know the over-development, again, may be a concern for some people,” said local resident Kaycee Kleehamer.

“We’re losing a lot of our rural area here,” said the Centerville resident.

Township officials said the Austin Landing development has picked up in the past month or so.

“The southeast out lots, which really are the corner of 741 and Austin Boulevard … that portion is now coming around to actually being developed,” said Kyle Hinkelman, Miami Twp. planner.

People will soon notice more tenants in the Landing as more are planned to join in the late fall – in time for the holiday shopping season.

A more complete layout of the Landing will be clear in the next six months.
