GE Aviation launches computer platforms to reduce customer costs

GE Aviation has launched a new family of versatile computing platforms that reduce development time and cost for military and commercial aviation customers, company officials announced.

The Evendale, Ohio-based jet engine maker launched the system in collaboration with GE Intelligent Platforms. Officials said the platform is “application ready” with open architecture components and provides standard digital avionics interfaces.

Versatile computing platforms provide aircraft with a common software environment that enables customers to use the open system design to host a variety of vehicle and mission computing applications, officials said.

In December, GE Aviation opened its Electrical Power Integrated Systems Center in partnership with University of Dayton to study electrical power systems.

GE Aviation employs more than 9,000 people in southwest Ohio. Worldwide, the company employs approximately 44,000 people at more than 80 locations.
