Beau Townsend adds 2 brands

Ford dealership will sell Lincolns, Mercurys after acquiring Dayton franchise.

Beau Townsend Ford will begin selling Lincolns and Mercurys at its West National Road dealership starting about May 1.

Larry Taylor, president of Beau Townsend Ford, said he acquired what was the Lincoln Mercury of Dayton franchise, 1575 Ohio 725, from Ford Motor Co.

Taylor said Monday, April 19, that he anticipates his inventory of about 1,000 new and used vehicles will rise by about 100, and his number of employees will go from about 200 today to about 215. He is interviewing technicians and sales people now, he said.

Taylor already has some of the inventory, although Ford has not yet sent him a license to sell Lincolns, he said.

“We’re able to dual it and just blend it (the former Lincoln Mercury of Dayton) into this existing store,” Taylor said. With 22 acres, “I have the land to accommodate it.”

Taylor said he has invested about $500,000 into his dealership for new signs and frontings, to give customers what he called the “luxury car experience.”

Ford is doing well, and Taylor believes that’s due to the fact that Ford did not accept bailouts or a government ownership stake, like General Motors and Chrysler. Taylor said customers tell him they appreciate that.

In January, the Martin Management Group changed the business identities of three local car dealerships. Planet Ford in Centerville merged with Fairfield Ford while its former East Alex Bell Road location became Thrifty Car Sales of Centerville. The business operating on Lincoln Mercury of Dayton’s lot became Luxury Cars of Dayton. And Thrifty Car Sales of New Carlisle opened where Martin Chevrolet did business at 2135 Ohio 235.
