‘Chic mom’ magazine reborn thanks to Oakwood mom

YELLOW SPRINGS — Miami Valley moms, Ertel Publishing and an Oakwood mom would like a few words with you.

A local woman is working with a local publisher to start a magazine aimed squarely at busy moms.

Darcy Plunkett, an Oakwood resident and mother of two, learned of Yellow Springs custom magazine publisher Ertel Publishing through a Dayton Daily News story in September 2009, said Benjamin Smith, an Ertel Publishing editor. She had experience publishing a magazine several years ago.

After seeing the DDN story, “She starts thinking maybe I wanted to restart Chic Mom magazine again and work with Ertel Publishing to do that,” Smith said.

So it’s happening. The first issue should be ready in June, Smith said. The magazine will be quarterly or seasonal to start, with Ertel currently designing the first issue. It should be available shortly after the end of May, Smith said.

The magazine is meant to help moms “rediscover their natural chic selves,” Smith said. “Because when you’re a mom, you’re focused on some many other things.”

Subjects will include home decoration, fashion, self-improvement and more, Smith said.

Readers will be able to soon visit www.chicmommagazine.com for information on obtaining the first issue, he said. A visit to the site late Tuesday, April 13 showed the Web site is up, but readers may not be able to subscribe through the site right away, Smith cautioned.

Ertel owns two magazines and custom-publishes magazines for clients, many of them historical or enthusiast publications.
