Cin-Day accounting firm Battelle Rippe Kingston to be acquired

Less than a year after a merger of Cincinnati-Dayton firms created one of the region’s largest independent public accounting companies, the new combined firm Battelle Rippe Kingston LLP is being acquired.

Chicago-based McGladrey LLP said Tuesday its reached an agreement to acquire Battelle Rippe Kingston, which offers assurance, tax and consulting services to businesses. The deal is expected to close Nov. 1, according to McGladrey.

Battelle Rippe Kingston’s offices in Cincinnati, Dayton and Troy will join McGladrey’s already existing offices in Cleveland and Columbus.

“By joining forces with Battelle Rippe Kingston, McGladrey has the opportunity to truly own the middle market in Ohio with offices across the state,” said Joe Adams, managing partner and chief executive officer of McGladrey, in a statement. “The depth and breadth of our combined Ohio practice will be a major force in the market, creating opportunities for our clients and our people. We look forward to welcoming the Battelle Rippe Kingston team and benefitting from their more than 140 years of combined experience in the state of Ohio.”

Dayton-based Battelle & Battelle merged with Cincinnati-area accounting firm Rippe & Kingston effective Dec. 1, 2013. The merged accounting firm had approximately 115 professional employees at the end of last year, including 60 Certified Public Accountants.
