‘Corner Kitchen’ sets opening date, menu

Jack and Natalie Skilliter, the husband-and-wife owners of Corner Kitchen at 613 E. Fifth St., said Tuesday the restaurant will open to the public next week, on Tuesday, July 21.

The Oregon District’s newest full-service restaurant — on the corner of East Fifth and Wayne Avenue — will seat 64 diners inside and an additional 36 on an outdoor patio, and also offers a private dining room for special events. The dinner-only restaurant will employ 20.

The Skilliters, who have extensive experience in the restaurant industry, described Corner Kitchen as a “finer diner,” with a menu that takes classic diner fare and infuses traditional dishes with creative and unexpected twists. The menu includes small plates, pasta dishes, salads, entrees and breakfast items, along with a multi-course tasting menu option, served in a “friendly and warm-spirited” atmosphere, Natalie Skilliter said.

Co-founder Jack Skilliter is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and Ohio State University. He most recently served as executive chef at the Dayton Racquet Club. He previously worked at Le Petit Bistro in Rhinebeck, N.Y., and served as sous chef at RIS, a restaurant co-located with a Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington.

Natalie Skilliter, vice president of Vella Inc. marketing firm in downtown Dayton, served as floor manager and director of catering for Terrapin Restaurant & Catering in Rhinebeck, N.Y., and as general manager of RIS restaurant in Washington.

The Corner Kitchen space previously housed Pulse, Bar Tiki and Sloopy’s. Its neighbors on the corner of Fifth and Wayne include the Dublin Pub and Roost Modern Italian, both of which recently completed renovations and expansions.

Corner Kitchen will be open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, check out the Corner Kitchen Facebook page at
