George Oberer Jr. — CEO of Oberer Companies, the developer of Cornerstone of Centerville — confirmed the Chick-fil-A plans and said it will be the first of many restaurants and other retailers to commit to building on the site near I-675 and Wilmington Pike.
The Dayton area’s seventh Chick-fil-A will be built along Wilmington Pike just south of the Cornerstone development’s main entrance, Oberer said.
Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A operates three free-standing restaurants in the Dayton area: in Beavercreek, Washington Twp. and Butler Twp. near Miller Lane. It also operates locations inside the Mall at Fairfield Commons, the Dayton Mall and Dayton International Airport.
“Dayton is a great market for us, and I know we have a lot of fans out there,” Abernathy said.
Chick-fil-A officials have been looking for an opportunity to add a restaurant to the Dayton-area market, and the Cornerstone of Centerville development “was the project we’ve been waiting on,” Abernathy said.
The restaurant will be about 4,700 square feet, with a seating capacity of about 135, Abernathy said. It will employ an estimated 50 to 70 people, he said.
The franchise operator for the new restaurant has not been selected, Abernathy said.
Costco will become the first retailer to open in Cornerstone on Nov. 13. Officials with Milano’s Atlantic City Subs have also indicated they’ll be opening a restaurant in the multi-use development.
