Dayton airport TV ads win marketing competition

DAYTON — Dayton International Airport television commercials in which actors portraying the Wright brothers promote the airport as an easy-to-use facility have won first place in an airport trade association’s marketing competition.

Airports Council International-North America said the ads, which won first place in the TV advertising competition, help promote a positive view of airports.

A tag line in the commercials, after viewers see the “Wright brothers,” declares: “They invented air travel. We perfected it.”

The commercials will run through the end of 2009 in the Dayton media market and in movie theaters in Cincinnati’s northern suburbs, as the Dayton airport competes with Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport for air travelers.

Nova Creative Group Inc., a Washington Twp. marketing and communication firm, created the ads for the Dayton airport.

The $200,000 cost of the ad campaign is paid from the airport’s operating fund, said Iftikhar Ahmad, Dayton’s aviation director.

The airport commercials were selected as the winning entries from among nearly 250 offerings submitted by 62 airports in the United States and Canada, Dayton airport officials said.
