RELATED: Local company has invisible battlefield writing device you can't see
Battle Sight debuted its infrared tactical crayon — which the company calls the world’s only reusable infrared writing appliance — last year, winning a 2018 Soin Award for Innovation, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce’s top annual award for local business innovation.
The device lets warfighters and operators covertly write in low-light and no-light situations to ensure effective communication with allies.
“The CrayTac is an exciting extension of infrared capability on the battlefield, and it complements our cutting-edge night vision technologies,” Dan Barnes, general manager of Steiner eOptics, said in the Battle Sight release.

The agreement with Steiner covers sales and distribution to entities outside the United States. Battle Sight itself will continue to handle U.S. sales.
Steiner eOptics produces what it calls one of the most advanced night vision devices, the AN/PVS-21, used by U.S. Special Forces and elite fighting units.
