Dayton VR company makes Austin Landing home

A locally based creator of 3D virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality software is calling Austin Landing home.

Fueled by partnerships with retailer Macy’s and other customers, Marxent moved from the Miami Valley Research Park in Kettering to Austin Landing just before Thanksgiving.

The new home gives the business not only more room, but a presence somewhat closer to the Cincinnati metro area while still remaining anchored in the Dayton area, where the company’s founders Barry and Beck Besecker grew up.

The company also has offices in the St. Petersburg, Fla. area.

“This move signals a new phase in our growth,” Barry Besecker, Marxent’s chief technology officer, said in an announcement from the company. “We want to attract the best talent from both Dayton and Cincinnati. This new location makes it possible for talented engineers and others who are looking for an alternative to big corporate culture — and who want to live in either Cincinnati or Dayton areas to come and work with us.”

The new Penny Lane offices offer 13,500 square feet. It features polished concrete floors, communal work spaces and is located amid restaurants and shops.

“We are an Ohio company to the core and love living and working here, but we wanted to create the feeling of working at a tech start-up in Silicon Valley — an office that would be fun to come and work in and that would stimulate creativity and collaboration,” Besecker said. “Engineers shouldn’t have to move to California to find that — and now they don’t.”

“We are thrilled to add Marxent to the Austin Landing community,” Larry Dillin, president of Austin Landing management firm VisCap Development LLC, said in the company’s release. “Companies like Marxent are the future of employment in the region and we know that they’ll love it here.”
