Dayton medical device firm wins FDA clearance

NovoSource, a Dayton-based developer and manufacturer of orthopedic implant systems, has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for its NovoKnee knee replacement product, the company said Tuesday.

The product is used by orthopedic surgeons to perform “total joint replacement procedures for the knee,” the company said.

The “NovoKnee” is intended to make available a lower-priced implant, reducing the costs of care for orthopedic patients. Harold Linville, a veteran of and retiree from Innovative Medical Device Solutions in Vandalia, co-founded the company.

“We are very pleased with and proud of this accomplishment,” Linville, NovoSource chairman and chief executive, said in a statement. “The NovoSource team, along with its collaboration partners, has worked long and hard towards this critical milestone. There is a significant unmet need in orthopedics for more cost-effective solutions, and we are all looking forward to launching the NovoKnee to begin addressing this need.”
