Dayton Metro Library selects architects

The Dayton Metro Library has selected the Dayton Design Collaborative – a partnership among LWC, Levin Porter, and Ruetschle – to be the architect of record for the first segment of its facilities plan, according to a media release.

The three local firms will with Group 4 Architecture, a national firm with extensive library experience, to design five distinct facilities, officials said.

The projects include renovating and expanding the Main Library downtown; building a new neighborhood library in Northwest Dayton that will be the largest branch in the system; renovating and expanding the Miami Twp. branch; renovating the historic E.C. Doren branch; and establishing an operations center to reduce costs by moving support functions out of the Main Library.

Officials said four other firms were pre-qualified for consideration for the 13 projects slated for the remaining three segments of the facilities plan. Those firms are Bostwick Design Partnership with APP Architecture, HBM Architects, John Poe Architects and Annette Miller Architects, and Matrix/Moody-Nolan.

“When interviewing the finalists we wanted to be certain the firms selected really understood the special mission of a library,” said Tim Kambitsch, Dayton Metro Library executive director, in a statement. “These cannot just be attractive buildings. They must also be functional, cost effective, and lasting,” he said.
