Dayton to weigh TIF agreement on Tech Town building

Dayton City Commission will consider entering into a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) agreement with CityWide Development Corp. to help support a Tech Town business park building.

According to the agenda for commission’s Wednesday meeting, the city’s Office of Economic Development is seeking authority to enter into a TIF agreement with CityWide, a non-profit that helps shepherd development for Dayton. The agreement would have the city paying back to CityWide taxes which CityWide has paid on the Creative Technology Accelerator, considered the second building of the Tech Town campus in northeast Dayton, said Steven Budd, CityWide president.

Based on 2012 and 2013 taxes, the city would pay to CityWide $253,000, according to the agenda item.

“We pay it (the taxes), but we get it (taxes) back,” Budd said.

The agreement is a 100 percent TIF agreement for 30 years, meaning CityWide will receive 100 percent of the taxes it pays for that duration. Budd said the money will be used to maintain the building and the Tech Town campus off Monument Avenue.

CityWide owns the building at 711 E. Monument and the Tech Town campus. Money will be disbursed back to CityWide annually or semi-annually, the commission agenda says.

Commission meets at Dayton city hall, 101 W. Third St., starting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
