Dick’s Sporting Goods moved into about 31,000 square feet of space on the north side of the Dayton Mall between Sears and JC Penney that had been vacated by a DSW shoe store — which moved to the adjacent Village at Dayton Mall — and space vacated by FYE, a music and video store that closed. The mall built another 19,000 square feet of new space to accommodate the move. It was the largest new-construction development at the 42-year-old Dayton Mall since the Village at Dayton Mall and other outlots were constructed in 2005, Dayton Mall General Manager Dave Duebber said.
Although Dick’s Sporting Goods officials did not release specific employment numbers, the company’s news release said the relocated store “is expected to generate local employment opportunities.”
Sunday’s scheduled events include a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m. and a “Mystery Gift Card Giveaway” to the first 100 adults in line who will receive unmarked Dick’s Sporting Goods gift cards for amounts ranging from $5 to $500, with one person winning the $500 card, according to a news release from the Pittsburgh-based sporting goods retailer. There is a limit of one gift card per person, and recipients must be 18 years or older. Also on Sunday, Bill Lowen, who fishes on the Bass Master Elite Circuit, will make an appearance from noon to 4 p.m.
The Dayton Mall location will be the retailer’s 37th store in Ohio and its 516th nationwide.
