Dynamic Dialogues event focuses on preparing businesses for 2010 and beyond

DAYTON — How should your business position itself for growth in 2010 and beyond?

• By embracing social media.

• By monitoring government moves into health care and other areas.

• By weighing your real estate options and limits.

Those were some of the perspectives from participants in the Dayton B2B “Dynamic Dialogues” event Thursday, Jan. 28, at the University of Dayton’s Kennedy Union ballroom. The gathering focused on the best ways to prepare for success this year and beyond.

Employers are striving to be smart about hiring in this environment, as the federal government recently wrestled with health care reform, said Jason Hockett, an account executive with McGohan Brabender. “Right now, cost is the big issue in benefits,” he said.

It’s that cost that’s driving employers to consider whether to hire or outsource personnel functions, said Wes Oppenheimer, director of business development for Anchor Personnel Services.

Despite all the caution, though, John Lohbeck, director of business consulting for Battelle & Battelle, sees clients who are ready to invest and take risks again.

“I think we’re 90 percent through” the rough economic seas, Lohbeck said.

Smart managers have used the recession to “reinvent themselves,” thinking anew about how to spend advertising budgets and more, Lohbeck said.

And in the age of Facebook and Twitter, said David Bowman, chief marketing strategist for Penny/Ohlmann/Neiman, “everything is marketing.”
