Elder-Beerman stores to open midnight on Black Friday

Bon-Ton Stores Inc., owner of Elder-Beerman and other retail department and furniture stores, announced the midnight opening of its stores on Black Friday, as the day after Thanksgiving has become known.

The retail company announced its holiday campaign, “Let the Cheer Begin,” which kicks off online on Thanksgiving Day starting at 6 a.m. with online door busters and special web-only deals at bonton.com.

All Bon-Ton stores will open at 12 a.m. on Nov. 23 for the company’s biggest after-Thanksgiving sale with more than 500 door busters, special offers and discounts for its customers, officials said.

“On Black Friday we will offer the very best deals to start the holiday shopping season,” said Brendan Hoffman, president and chief executive of the Bon-Ton Stores. The company operates 273 stores in 24 states.

In related retail news, J.C. Penney Co. will announce its holiday plans on Monday, according to company officials.

Last year, day-after-Thanksgiving sales rose 6.6 percent to $11.4 billion, according to the Chicago-based research firm ShopperTrak – the largest single shopping day of the year.
