The plant is expected to employ 800 workers when it’s at full capacity.
Fuyao finalized the acquisition of the Illinois facility from PPG during an August meeting in China. Fuyao is now moving ahead with plans to rebuild both production lines at the Illinois plant, the Herald Ledger reported this week.
“We went with a rush to go through the acquisition process,” Cao told the Herald Ledger through a translator. “We’re looking at significantly repairing both lines.”
One of the production lines hasn’t been used since 2009, plant manager John Gauthier said. It will be rebuilt and operational by the middle of 2015, as Fuyao intends to manufacture automotive glass, according to the newspaper.
The timing of the project is necessary to meet demand to supply glass for the fabrication facility being built in Moraine, Gauthier told the Herald Ledger.
The company says it will eventually pump $230 million into the plant and the Dayton area. Mike Davis, Moraine development director, said more workers could be hired after the initial 800.
Hiring for the Moraine plant has already started. Current Fuyao employees will train the plant’s work force, most of which will be hired from the area, said Dave Burrows, the Dayton Development Coalition vice president of development.
