In a battle with the United Auto Workers for the hearts and minds of workers last month, Fuyao Glass America, one of the area’s fastest growing manufacturers, won handily, beating the union 2 to 1 in a National Labor Relations Board-overseen election.
Workers resoundingly rejected forming a collective bargaining unit with the UAW.
Keeping the union at bay was evidently very important for the company. At a time when Fuyao was still struggling to attain profitability, the company found the means to spend nearly $800,000 for an Oklahoma-based consultant who boasts of helping customers in the art of “union avoidance.”
