Gas station chain buys former Centerville bank

Speedway bought a former bank in Centerville, though hasn’t announced plans for the site.

The gas station chain based in Enon bought a former Community National Bank branch at 50 W. Spring Valley Road. The site is next to an existing Speedway.

Property records show it sold for $700,000 in a sale recorded Jan. 2.

A message was left with Marathon, Speedway’s parent company, seeking more information about its plans for the property.

The site is near the intersection of Spring Valley Pike and Ohio 48.

As bank customers increasingly use online or mobile services, demand for physical bank branches has declined, leaving empty branches around the region. However, some branches, particularly those in busy retail areas, have been sold to be torn down or renovated for new uses such as coffee shops, funeral homes, offices and restaurants.
