Nick Poe is a principal in Slapshot Properties, as well as Nantucket Promotions, the Dayton Pro Shop, the Dayton Hockey Shop and other sports-entertainment concerns. Poe said he took over South Metro on a management contract two years ago and today he owns the building.
Poe lives about five minutes away from South Metro, and he said the facility will be his base of operations.
“We’re in the arena business,” Poe said. “We manage arenas.”
Poe may also be known locally for being involved in development plans for a Cincinnati Sports Zone facility, a one-time possible anchor site in the redevelopment of the Cincinnati Mall. But Poe said he hasn’t been involved in that project for at least two years.
Poe said he would like to pursue additions to South Metro. “We’re at capacity,” he said.
Beyond that, he doesn’t plan to greatly alter the building. South Metro will still be a home to a National Hockey League-size ice rink, three full-length basketball courts and four regulation volleyball courts.
The center also offers public ice skating, broomball, drop-in hockey, stick & puck, youth hockey and more.
Poe owns no other local facilities.
