Honda plans groundbreaking for expansion

Honda Transmission Manufacturing of America will break ground for an expansion Friday, the company said today.

The groundbreaking is scheduled for 1 p.m., off Ohio 235 North in Russells Point, in Logan County.

In October, Honda said it could create more than 100 jobs tied to the 200,000-square-foot expansion of an existing plant. The plant has more than 1,000 employees and sits on 136 acres in Russells Point. Workers there make automatic transmissions for models assembled at Honda’s two Ohio auto plants, as well as other North American Honda plants.

Honda in Ohio employs around 1,300 Miami Valley residents, including more than 300 at a Troy distribution center off South Stanfield Road. In total, Honda has about 13,500 Ohio employees.

Russells Point is about 60 minutes northeast of Dayton.
