The Dayton Daily News is working to help feed families in Dayton through The Foodbank Inc. and House of Bread with a $25,000 donation for each organization from The James M. Cox Foundation.

The grant will support local families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The James M. Cox Foundation is the charitable arm of Cox Enterprises, the parent company of the Dayton Daily News. In response to the growing strain on feeding the community, the foundation announced this $50,000 donation to support people in need in the community.

“We are so grateful for the work that House of Bread and The Foodbank do for our community, and we’re so happy to be able to support them with these generous grants from the James M. Cox Foundation. Cox continues to support our community where the company started with the Dayton Daily News more than 120 years ago. With so many people out of work and hurting, the work of The Foodbank and House of Bread are more important than ever,” said Dayton Daily News publisher Jana Collier.

The Foodbank has played a large part in helping families in the Dayton area get food and supplies they need during this pandemic. The organization has supplied thousands of Dayton-area people with its weekly drive-thru efforts in Dayton and surrounding counties.

“On behalf of The Foodbank and our network of partner agencies, thank you to the James M. Cox Foundation for their belief in a hunger-free community. This has proved to be a difficult time for many families across our region and it is only with the support and generosity of the James M. Cox Foundation that The Foodbank, Inc. is able to continue to meet the increased need for emergency food assistance in the Miami Valley. Together, we are strong enough to weather this pandemic,” said The Foodbank CEO, Michelle Riley.
