Neil's Heritage House at 2323 W. Schantz Ave. has ceased its regular restaurant hours for now to focus on events and special holiday dinners, according to co-owner Eric Leventhal.

In 2011, Leventhal and his wife Serena resurrected the iconic restaurant that closed in 2006 after a five-decade run. Now, Leventhal said it has become clear that the facility would operate best as a special-events venue than a restaurant, at least for now. Neil’s restaurant will, however, be open for special holiday dinners on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, Leventhal said.

Neil’s Events Space is now open “seven days a week for any function from a business-to-business networking groups, women’s bridge clubs, wakes, reunions, anniversaries, birthdays, weddings and holiday parties.”

It was those types of special events, he said, that Daytonians remember most fondly about Neil’s.

The facility can accommodate gatherings of 10 to 300, Leventhal said.

The Neil’s co-owner said he intends to reopen for daily restaurant operations in the future, and he said the special holiday dinners are proving to be very popular.

“I already have 102 reservations for Thanksgiving,” Leventhal said. “We will be sold out for our fourth year.”
