Local company granted patent for process

Fluid Quip Inc., based in Springfield, has been granted a patent for its methods for producing a high protein corn meal from a whole stillage by the U.S. Patent Office, according to the company.

This patent covers various features of Fluid Quip’s Maximized Stillage Co-Product System, according to the company.

The MSC system has been in full-scale operation since 2009 and recovers up to 4.5 pounds of 50 percent purity protein.

‘The 50MMGY system has been running for over five years. We are excited to add the patent to Fluid Quip’s portfolio,” said Michael Franko, vice president of Fluid Quip Process Technologies.

Besides equipment design and supply, Fluid Quip, founded in 1987, is involved with process support for its customers, especially in the corn wet milling and ethanol industries.
