The property of the closed Toys “R” Us store off the Interstate 75-Ohio 725 interchange has been sold for $2.23 million.
Montgomery County records picked up the transaction Monday. TRU Trust 2016 LLC sold the 44,482-square-foot department store building and 6.3 acres of property to Waterstone Miamisburg LLC.
Toys ‘R’ Us, Inc. voluntarily filed for relief under Chapter 11 protection in September 2017. The company was $5 billion in debt, and by early 2018, the chain was saying it would shutter 180 stores.
Soon, however, the bankruptcy meant the closing of all of the chain’s 735 stores, affecting as many as 33,000 employees.
Waterstone Miamisburg LLC registered as a for-profit company last month. It gives a Needham, Mass. mailing address, according to its Ohio Secretary of State’s office registration.
The building at 2859 Miamisburg-Centerville Road was built in 1987, records indicate.
