UD’s MBA program gets convenience upgrade

More on UD’s MBA program

There are about 500 students enrolled in the MBA program at UD, half of whom came to the school after being encouraged by their employer.

It takes a full-time student about a year to complete the program; part-timers typically take two or three years.

An MBA from UD costs around $25,000.

Roughly 90 percent of those enrolled complete the program.

DAYTON — The University of Dayton has announced plans to retool its Master’s of Business Administration program for the first time in 15 years.

“We heard loud and clear from students that they wanted added value, more convenience, greater affordability and sharper leadership skills to give them the best possible edge in a tight job market,” said Matthew Shank, dean of the business school, in a statement.

Updates to the curriculum include increasing the number of online classes offered and bringing in more business executives to teach alongside professors, said Janice Glynn, director of the program

“Business schools have to stay fresh,” Glynn said. “They have to reinvent themselves and make sure they are creating the workforce that employers are hiring.”

The wide variety of students enrolled in UD’s MBA program makes it essential the school offer flexibility, Glynn said. The goal is to eventually offer the entire program online.

“It is tremendously important to students who are working professionals,” Glynn said. “We are sharpening the efficiency of the program and fitting it into people’s lives.”

Classroom space also is changing. The MBA program is relocating to the former NCR-headquarters at 1700 S. Patterson Blvd., which will provide a more business-like environment, school officials said.

“This is a new approach for business schools,” Glynn said of the use of more executives and more accessible courses. “They are starting to adapt, we are probably at the forefront.”
