Meijer Distribution Inc. has purchased about 160 areas of land in the area of its Tipp City distribution center and its dairy.
Jacqueline Mote sold the land in the 600 block of West Kerr Road to Meijer last month for $1.55 million, according to Miami County property records.
Meijer operates both a distribution center and a $100 million dairy in Miami County, and the company has stockpiled land in the area before. In June 2016, the grocer bought nearly 60 acres of land in Tipp City near the dairy facility.
In that transaction, the Grand Rapids, Mich-based retailer acquired just more than 59 acres of farm land on South County Road 25A. Lesher Farms sold the land for $3 million to Meijer, according to property records at the time.
In 2014, construction began on the 105,000-square-foot dairy production facility and refrigerated warehouse space near what was already a 1.7 million-square-foot Meijer Distribution Center at 4200 S. County Road 25A.
The dairy production facility was built to help Meijer deliver products faster to stores across Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
“We purchased the land for future flexibility, but have no immediate plans to build or develop,” Meijer spokesman Joe Hirschmugl said.
Abbot Nutrition also has a production plant off South County Road 25A.
