NCR explains relocation policies to employees

DAYTON — NCR Corp., which is preparing to eliminate hundreds of jobs in Dayton as it relocates its world headquarters to Georgia in 2010, convened sessions for Dayton employees Wednesday, Aug. 5, to explain the company’s relocation policies.

The sessions included discussions of relocation benefits and determination of eligibility for them, real estate market trends and preparing homes for sale, and support resources for employees.

The informational events were for employees NCR is offering to relocate to Georgia and for those who will be left behind in Dayton, company spokesman Peter Tulupman wrote in an e-mail response to the Dayton Daily News. He declined to say how many employees attended, or provide details of relocation offers.

“NCR will not provide details on how many employees have accepted or rejected relocation offers,” Tulupman wrote.

The Dayton-based company plans to lay off nearly 600 people as it moves its corporate headquarters from Dayton to the Atlanta suburb of Duluth, NCR told the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services in a document filed with the state last week.

NCR has said that, after the relocation, the company expects to have about 100 jobs remaining in Dayton in sales, customer support and data center operations. NCR’s products include automated teller machines, retail financial checkout systems and self-service kiosks.

The company currently employs about 1,250 people in Dayton, NCR’s home base for more than a century.

The notification to Ohio was mandatory under a federal law that requires employers to give 60-day notice of mass layoffs. NCR plans to update that filing after receiving confirmation from employees on their decisions about relocating, Tulupman wrote.
