Overall employment at the center will not drop, according to that spokesman, Jeff LeRoy.
“P&G constantly reviews its business for opportunities to improve customer service and responsiveness, work efficiencies and drive productivity. Based on the size, scope and complexity of this operation P&G believes that in-sourcing the customization operations at Dayton is the best solution for our retail customers,” a company statement said.
“As a result, this operation will transfer from IFS to P&G. P&G is working with IFS on the transition and every interested IFS employee was afforded the opportunity to apply to P&G. Anyone interested in working at the Dayton Mixing Center can apply at www.pgcareers.com.”
The planned layoffs are effective March 31 and are expected to be permanent, said the letter to Ohio government from an Impact Fulfillment Services vice president of operations, Tom Ensley.

The 1.7 million-square-foot center near Dayton International Airport opened in 2015. About 800 people were employed there when it opened.

More than a third of P&G’s products moves through the facility, with the help of a third-party supply chain manager, Exel.
An employee at Burlington, N.C.-based Impact said he needed to gather information before answering questions.

Affected positions include 35 line leaders, 19 quality auditors, 18 packers, 13 fork lift operators, five cycle counters and more. In all, 167 positions are affected, according to Impact’s letter.
P&G has five employees at the center, Exel employs about 600 people and Impact Fulfillment Services has about 170, LeRoy said. Impact workers will be given a chance to apply with Procter & Gamble, he said.
“They were all afforded the opportunity to do that,” he said.
