Nelly’s Chicken to relocate to Centerville

New restaurant poised to open next week in West Carollton

Nelly’s Chicken is relocating to Centerville next month, and a new restaurant called Marina Seafood & Wings is opening next week in West Carrollton.

Nelly’s Chicken, at 37 Alex Road in Miamisburg, is moving into the former Savona/Root 48 space at 79 S. Main St. in Centerville, co-owner Rafael Santillan said Friday.

“We outgrew this location,” Santillan said of the Miamisburg retail center off Ohio 725, which has housed Nelly’s since it opened in 2006. The restaurant specializes in charcoal rotisserie chicken and serves several Bolivian entrees and side dishes.

Plans call for opening in the middle of March, Santillan said. The new Nelly’s will seat 80 to 100, at least double the existing restaurant’s 40. And it will be a full-service restaurant rather than counter-service, the co-owner said. Employment will double to about 12, Santillan said

The Centerville restaurant space has been vacant since Root 48 Tavern & Grille closed in August 2014. The building previously housed Twisted Root and Savona Restaurant & Wine Bar.

“The city of Centerville is pleased to see a speedy re-use for that property right in the heart of town,” said Nathan Cahall, development director for the city of Centerville.

In West Carrollton, a new restaurant called Marina Seafood & Wings is scheduled to open Tuesday, owner Jafar Shaqra of Washington Twp. said Friday. The restaurant is located at 654 E. Dixie Drive, in a building that formerly housed a Taco Bell and which has been vacant for about three years.

Marina Seafood & Wings will specialize in deep-fried fish, and will offer seven varieties: tilapia, catfish, red snapper, walleye, cod, orange roughy and whiting, as well as shrimp, chicken wings, and sides such as mushrooms, okra, and cauliflower, Shaqra said.

The restaurant will seat 30 to 40 and will employ about six, Shaqra said. It will be open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight.
