DAYTON — Fatback’s BBQ restaurant has opened at 1334 Linden Ave. about a half mile west of Smithville Road.

The new restaurant seats 24, offers carryout and catering. It is owned by Bub Britton of Dayton, who has offered barbecue catering for the past six years. Britton, a Dayton native and 1977 graduate of Belmont High School, said he launched the restaurant after being laid off from his job in the heating and cooling business. Renovation of the space took about a year, Britton said.

Baby back ribs, brisket and chicken are among Fatback’s specialties, and the restaurant also offers sides such as green beans, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, potato salad and cole slaw. Sandwiches and sandwich platters are available, and the restaurant also sells pork, chicken and brisket by the pound.

Britton said he recognized he has plenty of competition in the barbecue business in the Dayton area, but he is confident he’ll succeed.

“I smoke all the meat myself, and it’s good meat — people come back and rave about it,” Britton said. “I think that’s going to keep us around for a while.”

Fatback’s BBQ has four employees. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday.
