The project is still in its early stages, and still must complete financing, zoning and licensing issues, Waizmann said. The “best-case” projected timeline calls for Warped Wing to open this November, he said.
“We’ve been working on this for two years now,” Waizmann said. “It’s an exciting time for craft beer in Dayton, and we’re eager to be a part of it.”
Warped Wing becomes at least the 10th brewery or brewpub in the Miami Valley in some stage of development. Yellow Springs Brewing is scheduled to open this weekend in Yellow Springs, and the Dayton Beer Co. opened in 2012 in Kettering.
Waizmann has been the chief organizer of AleFest and AleFeast events in the Dayton area, and of Dayton Beer Week festivities that occur in a multitude of pubs, taverns and restaurants during the week leading up to AleFest. And he has worked in the wholesale distribution end of the wine and beer business.
The vice president and brewmaster for Warped Wing will be John Haggerty, who worked as head brewer for New Holland Brewing in Michigan.
