New CareSource CEO starts job: Here’s what we know

CareSource's new CEO, a former New Jersey insurance executive, started this week in his role leading one of Dayton's largest employers.

Erhardt Preitauer, former CEO of Horizon NJ Health, is taking over for Pamela Morris, who was the founding CEO of the Dayton-based Medicaid managed care company had led the insurance company for nearly 30 years before retiring.

Preitauer most recently had led New Jersey’s largest Medicaid plan.

Morris is working with Preitauer to ensure a smooth transition.

CareSource has 4,000 employees, including 2,800 in Dayton, making it one of the city’s largest employers.

CareSource primarily manages Medicaid plans but also manages Medicare plans and Affordable Care Act marketplace plans. The company has nearly 2 million policy holders in five states.

The insurance company, headquartered downtown, reported $8.9 billion in revenue in 2017 with 92.5 percent paid back out in claims.
