The Clayton Distribution Center is part of the company’s multi-year expansion of its North American Cat parts distribution network, Young said.
“As such, the Clayton Distribution Center is not included in the scope of the strategic options outlined in today’s announcement,” she said.
Caterpillar announced it is looking at “a range of strategic options” for its third-party logistics business, which is part of its wholly owned subsidiary, Caterpillar Logistics Services. That range of options includes a sale or structuring the business as an independent unit within Cat Logistics, the company said.
The new Clayton center will employ as many as 600 people when it opens. Company officials had said the center off Hoke Road would open in perhaps the early second quarter this year, but recently, Young said the site would open “midyear.”
The company’s third-party logistics business serves more than 50 customers worldwide.
