“Opening day will be pretty crazy,” said Olivia Petch, the company’s regional marketing manager.
Basic Costco membership fees for households and businesses cost $55 a year, while “executive memberships” are available for $110 a year and include an annual 2 percent reward (up to $750) on qualified purchases as well as discounts on services such as auto and home insurance, check printing and identity protection, company officials said.
The store on Wilmington Pike just north of Feedwire Road near the I-675/Wilmington Pike interchange will open at 8 a.m. on its first day of business following a 7:45 a.m. ribbon-cutting. After opening day, the warehouse’s regular hours will be Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Costco officials have said the store would hire about 185 employees.
The 149,000-square-foot Costco store — the ninth in Ohio — is an anchor tenant for the 225-acre Cornerstone of Centerville multi-use project. The entire Cornerstone project —to include retail, office and residential components — is expected to be built in multiple phases spanning 10 to 12 years.
When the project is fully built, the Cornerstone development is projected to create 2,600 to 2,800 new jobs and generate annual sales of $170 million, Cornerstone developer George Oberer Jr. told Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce members last month. Oberer said Costco’s presence is already proving to be a powerful magnet for other retailers, some of which have announced they intend to build locations at or near Cornerstone.
Phoenix-based Fresh Thyme Farmer Market, a specialty grocery store chain, is building across Feedwire Road from the development, while Dayton-based Milano’s Atlantic City Submarines and Chick-fil-A have confirmed plans to open in Cornerstone. Kroger officials say they have been presented with plans for a location in the development and are considering the site.
