New Family Dollar store to open next month in Huber Heights

HUBER HEIGHTS — A new Family Dollar store is under construction and scheduled to open at 5958 Old Troy Pike by the end of June, according to a spokesman for the North Carolina-based discount-store chain.

The 8,000-square-foot store is located on Ohio 202 just south of Fishburg Road on a lot that had been empty, said Trisha Reents, economic development assistant for the city of Huber Heights.

Family Dollar stores typically employ eight to 10 people, company spokesman Josh Braverman said.

“Our real estate strategy is to put our stores in the neighborhoods where our customers live,” Braverman said about the store’s location. “We’re a neighborhood convenience store that doesn’t charge a premium for being convenient.”

Family Dollar also opened a new store at 1028 N. Gettysburg Ave. in Dayton in January 2012, the company spokesman said.

Family Dollar, based in Matthews, N.C., operates 6,800 stores in 44 states, including about 10 stores in the Dayton area.
