New Kettering tavern opens today; another coming soon to Troy

A new pub and night spot called Dog’s Breath Tavern is scheduled to open this afternoon at 1912 E. Whipp Road in Kettering, and a pub called Mojos Bar & Grille is coming soon to downtown Troy.

Fred McGhee, who owned and operated the former Norton’s bar and grill and the Pavilion Grille restaurant in Kettering, is co-owner of Dog’s Breath Tavern, located in the former Bada Bing Lounge space near the Oak Creek Plaza.

The 5,400-square-foot tavern will seat about 200. McGhee previously estimated that Dog’s Breath will employ 12 to 15 people. The tavern’s menu will include overstuffed sandwiches and appetizers. For more information about Dog’s Breath Tavern, call (937) 439-0649.

Mojos Bar & Grille is scheduled to open later this month at 109 E. Main St. just off of Troy’s town square. The tavern is owned by Doug Boyle of Troy, who said he wanted to join in the revitalization of the city.

“I believe Troy has become a dining destination for the Miami Valley,” Boyle said. “People are coming here to eat, drink and be a part of Troy, and I want to be a part of that.”

He is shooting for a soft opening later this week, with a grand opening around St. Patrick’s Day.

Mojos’ menu will include sandwiches, salads and soups, with ingredients such as meats, bread and produce sourced locally, Boyle said. Mojos will seat about 45 and will open with eight to 12 employees, Boyle said. Boyle purchased the building at 109 E. Main St., which previously housed O’Brian’s Irish Pub.
