Siegel and Billings are two of several entrepreneurs opening e-cigarette “vapor shops” in the region. In late November, the Vapor Haus opened at 617 Watervliet Ave. in Dayton. Another e-cigarette retailer, JoJo Vapes in Vandalia, opened a second store in Brookville earlier this month, and is planning to open additional shops in Springfield, Troy and Huber Heights, probably before the end of the year.
The industry faces the possibility of regulation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is expected to announce restrictions to advertising, sales to minors and perhaps a limitation on flavors of the nicotine-laced liquid that is vaporized in e-cigarettes. But for now, the surge in e-cigarette retail locations is being driven at least in part by those looking for an alternative to smoking tobacco.
Vape Girls founder Siegel is one of those reformed smokers. By switching to e-cigarettes, Siegel said he feels better physically and is saving money compared to the $5-per-pack Marlboros he was smoking for more than 30 years.
Siegel said his shop will carry a wide variety of e-cigarette hardware and about 60 flavors of nicotine liquids.
