The region’s newest Dewey’s Pizza restaurant opens at 11 a.m. today in the Austin Landing development in Miami Twp.

The 3,500-square-foot restaurant will seat about 90 and employs 40 to 50, a Dewey’s spokeswoman said this morning.

Austin Landing is Dewey’s 19th location, and 2nd in the Dayton region: Dewey’s operates a restaurant at 131 Jasper Street just off Brown Street near the University of Dayton. The Cincinnati-based pizza chain operates restaurants in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and St. Louis.

Dewey’s had purchased properties in downtown Centerville to open a restaurant there, but pulled the plug on those plans in December 2013 after multiple regulatory issues arose with the site, including parking, traffic flow and drainage. Earlier plans to build a restaurant on Far Hills Avenue in Kettering were shelved in 2009.

The Austin Landing Dewey’s will be overseen by general manager Joe Soucy, who began his career as an original member of the UD-area restaurant’s kitchen staff, Dewey’s officials said.
