Optimus licensed for new prosthetics technology

HARRISON TWP., Montgomery County — Optimus Prosthetics is partnering with a California prosthetics company, biodesigns, inc., to bring a new prosthetics socket interface system to market for those with above-the-knee amputations.

Optimus said it is the first company licensed to use the product, High-Fidelity, a biomechanical design that lets patients with upper- or lower-extremity prosthetics have more limb control, stability, tactile feedback and comfort.

The company, which employs 10 people, has begun fitting customers with the new prosthesis.

The Miami Valley is home to at least 11 companies involved in some aspect of the prosthetics industry, which employs roughly 150 people locally. The region has more prosthetic manufacturers than any other part of the state, the Ohio Orthotic and Prosthetic Association told the Dayton Daily News in 2009.
