OAKWOOD — The latest addition to the evolving Pointe Oakwood/Sugar Camp development is 20 condominium units in four separate buildings at Far Hills and West Schantz avenues.

The city planning commission recommended approval of the second major addition to the project in two months. An assisted living facility on the northern border of the 38-acre project was authorized in March.

Bob Posner, executive vice president and chief operating officer for the developer, Oakwood Investment Group, said 43 single homes also are part of the current blueprint.

The condos, which still require OK by Oakwood City Council, are planned on almost two acres toward the top of the elevation on the southeast corner of the plat.

Units in both two-story buildings will be 1,600 square feet. Those in a pair of three-story buildings nearest the Far Hills and Schantz corner will be 1,800 and 2,400 square feet. Estimated purchase price is in the $350,000 to $390,000 range.

Architect Earl Reeder, who also is designing the assisted living facility, said the buildings will be in a colonial revival style.

Developer Lee Schear said the intent is to design buildings that mesh with the surrounding neighborhood and that will sell.

Oakwood resident and Realtor Sandy Burbey, in public comments to the planning commission, expressed concern that the four buildings “lined up, will enclose the development,” separating it from the neighborhood instead of being open to it.
