PSA Airlines flight dispatchers ratify contract

DAYTON — Flight dispatchers for PSA Airlines Inc. voted on Friday, Sept. 4, to ratify their first collective bargaining agreement with the airline, a US Airways Group subsidiary that flies under the US Airways Express banner.

The Transport Workers Union of America reached agreement on the five-year contract last week with PSA Airlines, after 25 months of negotiations begun in July 2007. The dispatchers had joined the union in March 2007.

The contract covers 11 dispatchers based in Dayton, where PSA Airlines has its headquarters. Ten of the 11 who cast ballots on Friday voted in favor, said Gary Shults, an international representative for the union.

The agreement provides a onetime bonus and initial pay increases ranging from 5 to 15 percent, depending on the dispatcher’s experience and current pay level, Shults said.

Future pay increases in each contract year will range between 3 and 4.5 percent per employee, Shults said. The contract also provides guaranteed holiday pay and vacation, and establishes a grievance procedure, he said.

The company had no comment on details of the agreement, spokeswoman Valerie Wunder said.

Flight dispatchers, licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration, work with pilots to review en-route weather patterns and ensure that aircraft are prepared for flight.
