Ray’s Wine Spirits Grill now open in Clayton

Restaurant poised to expand dining hours to include lunch service

A restaurant affiliated with a wine and beer shop is poised to expand its hours to include lunch service.

Ray's Wine Spirits Grill — previously known as Splash! Tasting Room — is located in the former Caffe Anticoli space at 8268 N. Main St. (Ohio 48) in Clayton. The business blends a retail wine shop, a wine bar, a craft-beer cave and a restaurant. It's the brainchild of Tony Hause and Belinda Yingst, and is named for Hause's brother Ray, who died three years ago after battling metastatic melanoma.

Hause owns the retail center that houses Ray’s Wine Spirits Grill, and also founded Healthy Alternative Natural Food Market in 1993, which moved in 1999 to its current location adjacent to Ray’s.

The menu for Ray’s Grill will emphasize healthy, organic, local ingredients, Hause said. The restaurant quietly started serving dinner Wednesday through Saturday nights about a month ago, and plans call for expanding dinner hours to Monday and Tuesday later this month, then adding lunch hours around mid-September, Hause and Yingst said.

Plans call for adding craft draft beers that will offer growler refill service, Hause said.

Hause and Yingst founded the Splash! Tasting Room part-time wine bar in 20012 following the departure of Caffe Anticoli, and started renovating the space in early 2014 to accommodate the beer cave and restaurant, which can seat about 80. The business employs five people, but that number is expected to grow to 20 to 25 as the restaurant expands its hours and other amenities are added, Hause said.

A grand opening is being planned for late September or early October.

The retail wine and beer shop portion of Ray's is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday. For more information, call (937) 890-0300 or check out the Ray's Wine Spirits Grill Facebook page.
