MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — A 14-screen Regal cinema with a 60-foot glass entrance is to stand at the north edge of the Village at Austin Landing.

The 54,657-square-foot theater complex would be flanked by two ultra-modern buildings, according to plans unveiled Monday during a meeting of the Austin Center Land Use Advisory Committee.

“This is a start,” said Kyle Hinkelman, a planner in Miami Twp. “The goal is to create a unique place.” Also Monday, Hinkelman showed plans for a 450-space parking garage east of the village and west of the Kohl’s department store already open near the southeast corner of the development.

Regal officials could not be immediately reached, but the application submitted by Randy Gunlock, president of developer RG Properties, stated a Regal cinema is to be built on 1.74 acres on the north side of the village.

It was unclear whether the cinema would include an Imax theater, as Hinkelman indicated, or features included in the company’s RPX cinemas, including digital and 3D projection, “giant screens” and surround sound, as indicated in drawings. An Imax theater is part of the Regal complex at Crocker Park, a mixed-use village west of Cleveland.

The buildings flanking the cinema at Austin Landing are each expected to cover about 20,000 square feet and offer stores or restaurants on the ground floor and offices or residences upstairs. RG is committed to including 135 residences in the $150 million development.
