Several new retailers will add store locations in the Miami Valley in 2017, which could be a local indication that retail sales will increase this year.

The National Retail Federation released its economic forecast for 2017, projecting that retail industry sales will grow between 3.7 and 4.2 percent compared to 2016. Online and other non-store sales, which are included in the overall number, are expected to increase between 8 and 12 percent.
