Tenneco wins new parts business

Tenneco’s ride suspension auto parts plant in Kettering has won new work.

Tenneco Inc. is supplying ride performance and clean air technologies on the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Eco, the company said Thursday. Tenneco is a global supplier to General Motors on the new midsize vehicle platform, supporting Malibu production in North America, China and Korea, as well as the Buick Regal and LaCrosse models in North America and China, and the Opel Insignia model in Europe, the company said.

Industrial Realty Group, based in the Los Angeles area, bought Tenneco’s Woodman Drive plant from Delphi last year. Tenneco makes ride control components there and in Hartwell, Ga.

For North America production, Tenneco also makes the Malibu’s hot-end exhaust systems at its Smithville, Tenn. and Seward, Neb. facilities, and supplies converters from Litchfield, Mich. Cold-end exhaust systems are produced at the company’s Cambridge, Ontario and Seward plants. and exhaust isolators are supplied from the company’s Suzhou, China facility.

A Tenneco spokesman said the Kettering plant has 420 workers. The project will not mean new hiring there, he said.
