Teradata client to launch Web-based business portal

MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — Railinc Corp., a provider of hosted IT services for the rail industry, is launching a Web-based business intelligence portal relying on Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance, Teradata said.

Railinc is using the appliance to create “an information portal for railroads, rail car and equipment owners, shippers and other members of the rail industry in the United States, Canada and Mexico,” Teradata said Monday Aug. 17 in its announcement. “Initially, the new service will bring better visibility of rail assets and maintenance costs, and ease waybill (shipping instructions) management.”

The product is meant to let organizations move to information platforms without costly changes to load programs or data models, Teradata said. The appliance delivers a “five- to 10-time performance improvement” over other appliances at competitive price points, the company said.

With some 400 Dayton-area employees, Teradata bills itself as the world’s largest company solely focused on data warehousing, data warehouse appliances and related services.
