Troy aerospace firm sold to Pittsburgh company

A Pittsburgh-based manufacturing company has acquired Precision Aero Corp. of Troy, according to a media release.

H-D Advanced Manufacturing Co. purchased Precision Aero, which manufactures high-precision machined products for aerospace wheel and brake assemblies. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Officials said H-D will seek to extend Precision Aero’s products and technology into other aircraft components and new industrial sectors such as commercial trucks.

Precision Aero is the third aerospace firm acquired by H-D, and its seventh acquisition overall, since the company was formed in December 2012 by a partnership among the Riverside Co., Hicks Equity Partners and Weinberg Capital Group.

“After over 50 years of family ownership, it was important to me to find the right home for Precision Aero,” said Tim Smith, the Troy firm’s owner, in a statement.

“I am excited to watch Precision Aero thrive with the addition of H-D’s strong financial, operations and business development resources and reach new heights for our customers and employees,” Smith said.
