"Yesterday, we signed the contracts and that was the culmination of half dozen meetings at his house and my house, lunch and dinner, just getting to know each other," VanGorder said. "His staff is like family to him, they've been working with him for a long time. You don't just hand over the reins to just anybody."
VanGorder said all 20 employees will be retained at SVG Chevrolet but will “add a few, probably half a dozen” jobs to the business.
Garrett was well-respected as a dealer, “recognized for integrity,” but VanGorder hopes to “add some energy to the store.”
”All along I’ve wanted to open locations across the market,” VanGorder said. “Our mission is ‘superior value guarantee.’ We show up as one of the best values in the market, and with these locations our overhead is much lower than the average.”
VanGorder is well known in the Miami Valley as the pitchman for Jeff Schmitt Auto Group, where he worked for 20 years before leaving in 2013 and opening an used car lot in Vandalia.
VanGorder said he plans to open a third SVG Motors location in Englewood on Aug. 1.
“There’s still a lot that needs to be done,” VanGorder said.
