Vectren CEO to retire on May 31

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Neil C. Ellerbrook, who oversaw the creation of Vectren Corp. in 2000 and became chairman and chief executive officer of the energy company at that time, will retire as chief executive on May 31.

Ellerbrook, 61, will remain with the company as non-executive chairman, as part of a planned succession.

He supervised the merging of two energy companies together to create Vectren, which is based in Evansville. He also helped direct Vectren’s purchase of Dayton Power and Light Co.’s natural gas distribution system in 2000.

Carl L. Chapman, Vectren’s president and chief operating officer, will become the next CEO. Chapman, 54, was elected to Vectren’s board of directors in May 2009 and has served as an officer of the company for more than 20 years.

Vectren is the primary sponsor of the annual Vectren Dayton Air Show, which takes place each July at Dayton International Airport.
